Five Kinds of Blinds

We know it’s hard to believe, but not everybody wants custom draperies. Sometimes a room needs the clean look you get from blinds.

The history of blinds goes way back. Their official name is “Venetian Blinds”, though they are actually thought to have been invented in Persia. They have been popular in the west for a long time and you might see blinds in paintings going all the way back to the 18th century. Venetian blinds have 2″ slats that are stacked on top of each other and can be opened and closed to let light in.

“Mini-blinds” are very similar to Venetian blinds, but their slats are narrower. Venetian and mini blinds have been available in metal and wood for a long time, but we have more choices in the 21st century.

Alternative Wood Blinds

Real wood blinds are beautiful, but they may not be the best choice in a humid or hot room. Hunter Douglas offers several types of high-quality faux wood blinds that are made to withstand heat and humidity. They have the same gloss and texture of real wood, but won’t be ruined by the swelling associated with humidity.

Wire-brushed Wood Blinds

Sometimes a room needs a clean-lined window covering, but how can we use a blind in a room full of textures without making the window look flat? Wire-brushed wood blinds add depth to a room. They come in a wide range of stains and are made from sustainably sourced wood.

Nesting Slat Blinds

Does it seem like blinds block too much light? Hunter-Douglas has a solution for that problem! Nesting slat blinds are made to drop every other slat on top of the one below it, giving you twice the view-through area. These aluminum blinds let in twice the light.

Routless Blinds

What about those little spots of light that leak through the cord holes on most blinds. Are those annoying you? Hunter-Douglas makes a blind that covers those little holes and seals out the spots. You get a little more privacy and walls so smoothly dark that you could show a movie.

Woven Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds make it possible to get in and out of your patio door when they are open, but give you privacy when they are closed. Woven blinds can be made of fabric panels that let as much or as little light through as you would like. They have the versatility of drapes with the clean lines of a blind.
